1. Copy LaserPrep v6.0 and LaserWriter 6.0 from this disk to your System Folder. This special version of the LaserWriter driver allows PostScript files to be spooled to disk without the need to use the Command-F sequence. From most applications the Print menu will contain a check box labelled "Disk File". Selecting this box will cause a PostScript file to be created and stored on your hard disk when you print.
2. Create a folder called MacRIP on your hard disk.
3. Insert the MacRIP® program disk into your Macintosh and copy its contents onto your hard disk. (Note: the HP LaserJet driver is to be used for both the HP LaserJet and the HP DeskJet printers. The HP DeskWriter, GCC PLP, Apple LaserWriter SC and any other QuickDraw based printer will use the QuickDraw driver which is has already been installed into your MacRIP program). If you are using an HP printer take the HP printer driver out of the HP printer driver folder (leave it "loose" within the MacRIP folder).
4. Insert the MacRIP® fonts disk into your Macintosh and copy the folder called “Fonts” into the MacRIP® folder on your hard disk. Keep these PostScript® fonts in their folder rather than leaving them "loose" throughout the MacRIP folder. *Do not put these fonts into your System Folder. *
To verify that you have properly installed MacRIP you can print any of the PostScript® sample files found on the MacRIP program disk.
1. Activate the MacRIP program.
2. Select “Print PostScript File” from the File menu.
3. Select Preview as the output device.
4. Select any MacRIP sample file.
If you have properly installed MacRIP® the sample PostScript® file will print to your Macintosh screen. Next you can try printing the same file to your printer. For more detail on connecting your Macintosh to the printer see the MacRIP® User Manual or consult the manual provided by the printer manufacturer.
MacRIP version 1.0.1 can now reside with Adobe's Type Manager (ATM). We are working to fully support ATM in future MacRIP updates.
